How to Configure a Database Connection

a. For managed databases, select Site Connection. This type only allows you to connect to a single Site database at one time.

b. For unmanaged databases, select CM4D Connection(s). This type allows you to connect to one or more unmanaged database at one time. See here for instructions.

3. In the Connection Info section, type a name for the connection in the Label field.

4. Open the Data Source Type dropdown and select which database management system you are using:

i. In the Data Source Type dropdown, select SQL Server.

ii. From the Windows Authentication dropdown:

(1) To use Windows Authentication, leave this field set to True and then go to the next step.

(2) To use SQL Authentication, set this field to False.

(a) Enter the Database User ID. This is the SQL user name.

(b) Enter the Database Password. This is the password assigned to the SQL user.

iii. In the Server Name field, enter the name of the computer that the database is stored on. If you are using a named instance (which is always the case when using SQLExpress), the server name format must be: servername\instancename

iv. Enter the Database Name of the database.

(1) For Site Connections, this must be the name of the Site database.

(2) For CM4D Connections, this must be the name of the CM4D database.

i. In the Data Source Type dropdown, select Oracle.

ii. For the Server Name, enter the Alias used in your tnsnames.ora file that is configured to connect to the Oracle database.

iii. Enter the Database Name for the Site Database. This is the Oracle user name for the database.

iv. Enter the Database Password. This is the password for the Oracle user.

v. Enter the password again to Confirm Password.

8. Copy the CM4D.4ds file you just created to any other CM4D clients, web servers, or application servers that will be connecting to this database.
