1. Locate the Characteristics node under the Header node.
2. Right-click on the Characteristics node
3. Select New Characteristic from the context menu.
a. Locate the node labeled “Characteristic A” under the Characteristics node.
b. Double-click "Characteristic A".
i. In the Characteristic Properties dialog:
(1) Change the label to “Routine (file name)”.
(2) Change the color to Light Blueberry.
(3) Click Associate.
(a) In the Associations dialog:
(i) Select the association Routine>Properties>Label.
(b) Click Ok.
ii. Click Ok.
c. Locate the Instructions node under "Routine (file name)".
i. Define the instructions as:

5. Duplicate the characteristic "Routine (file name)".
a. Open the Characteristic Properties.
i. Change the characteristic label to “Sample (file name)”.
ii. Change the color to Light Grape.
iii. Click Associate.
(1) In the Associations dialog:
(a) Change the association to Sample>Properties>Label.
(2) Click Ok.
iv. Click Ok.
b. Locate the Instructions node under "Sample (file name)".
i. Change the second instruction string from “:” to “_-_”
ii. Change the third instruction from “2 times to 3 times”
iii. Change the fifth instruction to “Go to the end of line.”
6. Duplicate the characteristic "Sample(file name)".
a. Open the Characteristic Properties.
i. Change the characteristic label to “Date”.
ii. Change the color to Light Strawberry.
iii. Click Associate.
(1) In the Associations dialog:
(a) Change the association to Sample>Create>Date and Time.
(2) Click Ok.
iv. Set the Type Validation to "DateTime (date and time)".
v. Click Ok.
b. Locate the Instructions node under "Date".
i. Change the first instruction string from “DataSmith Title:” to “Date:”
ii. Change the second instruction string from “_-_” to “:”
iii. Change the third instruction from “3 times” to “2 times” and remove “constrain to line”
7. Duplicate the characteristic "Date".
a. Open the Characteristic Properties.
i. Change the characteristic label to “Units”.
ii. Change the color to Avocado.
iii. Click Associate.
(1) In the Associations dialog:
(a) Change the association to Routine>Properties>Units.
(2) Click Ok.
iv. Click Mangle.
(1) Select the “Make Lower Case” check box.
(2) Select the “Lookup” radio button.
(3) In the ‘Change this:’ box, enter the text “mm”.
(4) Hit the return key and enter the text “in”.
(5) In the ‘To this:’ box, enter the text “1”.
(6) Hit the return key and enter the text “2”.
(7) Click Ok.
v. Set the Type Validation to "Text".
vi. Click Ok.
b. Locate the Instructions node under "Units".
i. Change the first instruction string from “Date:” to “Units:”
8. The file should now look like this:
