The following tips can be used to help you achieve the best results when taking product photographs to be uploaded for use with Inspect.
Use diffused (soft) lighting to minimise hard shadows. If shot outdoors, overcast skies are best. Bright sunlight causes shadows and/or glare on painted metal surfaces.
If possible, drape background with a dark cloth so that the perimeter of the product is clear. If this is not possible, try to make the background as uniform as possible, and in contrast to the product colour.
If possible, take pictures of a lightly coloured (light gray) or white product.
Try to use the same product for all of the images.
Be sure that the photographer is standing the same distance away from the product for each picture.
Try to fill the viewfinder with the product so that it is as large as possible.
Take pictures perpendicular to the photographed surface. Avoid angles whenever possible.
Consider using a tripod for consistent distance and height.
Test a few of your images on a Data Collect station before adding too many images to Inspect. This will allow you to view the color, contrast and zoomed-in image quality as the inspector will see it.
