Define the Model Years

Products are often associated with model years. This is especially true in the automotive industry, where final production units and even many parts use model year as an identifier.

The model year of a product is not necessarily the same as the calendar year. Inspect tracks the calendar year independently of the model year. The model year of products is also reconciled using Build Groups, described in the next section.

For this tutorial, the available Model Years will be 2017 through to 2020. The default will be 2017.

Run Inspect Cockpit.

Select the Products tab.

Click Model Years.

A list of the existing model years is displayed.

Click the add icon ().

The model year creation dialog opens.

Select 2019 in the Year field.

In the Code field, type the unique code or abbreviation for the model year. In this case, 2019.

Click OK.

The new model year is displayed in the model years list.

Repeat these steps for the other required years.

Select 2019 in the list of model years.

Click the Mark as default button ().

2019 is now the default model year.
