Documents created in CM4D are saved with a .4dc extension. A CM4D document saves annotation within the document as well as the settings specific to the document, such as DataSource connections, Queries, Feature and Sample Load settings, etc. CM4D documents do not save the dimensional data (nominal and actual) that is displayed. Dimensional data is stored within a Database, whereas the CM4D document simply retrieves, processes, and displays the data.
CM4D documents are very versatile. The appearance and function of each template may be designed according to a user's specifications, allowing for optimal reporting and analysis of data.
A simple CM4D document may consist of one sheet containing one annotation, such as a Trend chart. Yet CM4D is powerful enough to create comprehensive documents containing multiple DataSources, SheetSets, sheets, Queries with multiple Routines, and many types of annotation.
CM4D documents may also be referred to as Reports or Templates.
CM4D documents can also be used in conjunction with other CM4D Suite applications, such as WTC and CM4D Interactive. Please refer to the CM4D Interactive and Web Template Control Help Documentation for more information on each respective application.
