There are many ways in which you can build your database of products. The following is a suggested order in which to enter the most commonly used information.

How to Create Products

A product is a unique item being manufactured and inspected. You should define products the way that you want them reported.

Create products (see here)

Create product groups and assign products (see here)

How to Create Components

Components are created by associating parts to location(s). Components are created as follows:

Create locations (see here)

Assign parts to locations (see here)

Add parts for all the items that need to be inspected. In an automotive inspection process, for example, you might define fenders, doors, engines, axles, window regulators, spark plugs, and so on. Any part or component that is to be inspected should be defined as a part in Inspect.

How to Create Categories

Part categories are only required if you are carrying out a button-driven inspection. Button-driven inspections should be used when it is impractical to use images for recording quality data or where the precise location of the defect is not critical.

Create part categories (see here)

View categories allow a large number of views to be organized into just a few categories.

Create view categories (see here)

How to Create Build Groups

A build group is any set of production units that share a unique property or characteristic, which may need specific quality checks. Creating build groups allows you to track quality for special sets of units. Build groups are also known as launch builds.

How to Create Model Years

Products are often associated with model years. This is especially true in the automotive industry, where final production units and even many parts use model year as an identifier.
