Variable Data Collect (VDC) allows operators to record Critical To Quality characteristics such as lengths, diameters, temperatures, voltage and weight.
You can set control limits to alert operators as soon as they enter measurements that show the system is out of control, allowing them to take the appropriate countermeasures. Inspect uses Nelson rules and Western Electric (WECO) rules to decide whether a system is in control or not.
Data can then be viewed in statistical process control charts for real-time analysis.
VDC uses touch-screen technology to input data. On a handheld device the operator can touch the screen to enter data. If using a stationary PC with touch screen capability, the operator can either touch the screen or use a mouse to enter data.
VDC can be run without a network connection using the VDC Offline Assistant. This allows data to be stored in a local database before being uploaded to the central database when a network connection is available.
In order to correctly use VDC there are a few steps that must be carried out in other programs before and after:
Form Composer: Create the required forms that will be presented to the operator (see here).
Cockpit: Setup a station to work with Variable Data Collect (see here).
Variable Data Collect can then be used as follows:
Login to your VDC station (see here).
Select the data you wish to record (see here).
Enter the observed values (see here).
Once the VDC actions have been performed the results can be reviewed:
Advanced Reporting Services: Generate reports for review (see here).
